Needle and ThREAD

The Cat’s Whiskers

Janie Hubble, owner of The Cat’s Whiskers Design Studio in Perth, Western Australia, is the latest needlearts designer to come on board with a bookmark design for the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program.

cats-whiskersHer Batty About Books bookmark is part of a group of Halloween-themed accessories which will be available as a class on The Stitchers Village website beginning October 1. Click on the School building to get to current classes.

There’s plenty of time to stitch up a few of these Batty bookmarks for friends and family as Halloween gifts, and even more time to make one (or four?!) for the 2010 Bookmark Challenge. Bats are cool year round, and more than a few of us are batty year round–and not just batty for books, but that’s another story.

One dollar from each class purchase will be donated to Janie’s favorite literacy program in Western Australia–Read Write Now, a community-based volunteer group that has operated in Western Australia since 1977. Volunteer tutors provide free one-to-one assistance to adults wanting to improve their reading, writing, spelling and math skills.

Treat yourself–you may learn a few tricks, too–to a great class and pattern, and support literacy at the same time.
