We’re here at the lodge. Just the two of us now. Ahhhhh.
We’re about fifty miles from Seward…
…as the Dall porpoise swims, only about fifteen miles as the raven flies, over mountains and icefield.
Dall porpoises might be my favorite sea animal out here. They look like little orcas, and they approach and follow boats in order to play in the wakes. This one is swimming just off the bow, back and forth, up and down. Crazy fast.
They actually come to us–wanting to play, not begging for food. How often does that happen with wildlife?
