Needle and ThREAD

The Literacy Scoop

bookmark-4.jpgI call this design “embroidery DNA.” I could iron out the twist, but I happen to like it. I’m making a longer one.

Living as I do in two professional worlds–writing/reading and needlework–I often find it hard to keep up with current industry news and events. There seem to be as many literacy programs and events every week as there are books on my reading list.

In truth, I can’t keep up with one industry’s news, let alone both, so I am grateful for the Children’s Literacy Round-Up offered every Monday at, alternately, Jen Robinson’s Book Page and Scrub-a-Dub-Tub, a Reading Tub blog. This week’s Round-Up is on Jen’s blog here. Next Monday, it will be at Scrub-a-Dub-Tub.

These two bloggers, Jen and Terry, collect their favorite articles, events, and bits of literacy news throughout the week then post summaries and links on Mondays. I love this resource! It makes me feel connected, even if it’s the only literacy-related news I catch in a given week.

I hope you’ll check it out.

  1. That is just gorgeous. I love the combination of the beadwork with the stitching. I have gotten so wrapped up with books lately that my needlework has suffered … This is great inspiration that I need to get back to it. Thanks for sharing the Roundup with your readers.

  2. Thanks so much for mentioning the literacy round-ups, Jen. This post was a lovely surprise to come across, as I was going through my blog reading today. I’m thrilled that you find the literacy round-ups useful – they can be quite time-consuming, and it helps keep me motivated to hear that people enjoy them.

  3. I’m glad you all like the bookmark. Terry, I, too, like the bead/embroidery combo. In part because I like both crafts, and in part because of the weight the beads add to the bookmark, helping the embroidery hang nicely, and giving it motion.

Jen and Terry, I know the round-up is a heap of work. The links alone are time-consuming, let alone the finding and filtering of news. I really am grateful for it!
