Stitching for Literacy Update

The Monday “What have you done lately?” accountability post, where I announce my Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program promotion goal for the week and fess up on last week’s goal.

Last week, my goal was to update this site with the 2009 Bookmark Challenge results and the new Bookmarks and Banners pattern from Cross Eyed Kat. (Remember, Kat will donate 10% of profits from the sale of this pattern to literacy projects.)

Done.

susans-needlearts.jpgMeet Susan from Susan’s Needlearts, and check out those bookmarks in the library! If you’re near Big Bear City, CA, stop in and say hi to Susan. If you’re not near Big Bear City, give her a shout here–she checks in now and then. Hi, Susan!

This week, my goal is to get a sense of the Big Picture for the year. I need to figure out the big things I want to accomplish so that I can reduce them to baby steps I can handle. For instance, I want to nag (for lack of a better word) shop owners on a particular message board with that hope that more will participate next year. To that end, I will attempt to post about the program at least once a month. (Do you have a local shop owner you could encourage to participate? Someone you could offer to help?)

Also, halfway through the Challenge year, I’d like to get a Battle of the Bookmarks off the ground with the Bookmark Collector.

You really can help me here. I’m winging this, making up goals and making decisions as I go along. What should we (yeah, you too) try to do this year in an effort to get at least 2010 hand-stitched bookmarks into the hands of young readers next year?

Anything goes. Brainstorm away. I’m listening.

  1. I’m trying to do a bookmark a month. Hopefully my customers will help out on this.
Also I think I’ll try a bargello or needlepoint bookmark.

  2. Jen I forgot . THANK YOU for the wonderful publicity. I was so suprised, to see my picture.
    Thank you Susan

  3. Yay! Another DuCharme bookmark-a-month Challange-taker. Welcome, Susan! I’ll consider this a nudge to get started on my July (#3) bookmark.

    Hmm…what will it be…
