The Children’s Book Council and the International Reading Association asked, and kids all over the country answered. The winners of the 2008 Children’s Choice Book Awards are:
- For grades K-2: Frankie Stein, written by Lola M. Schaefer, illustrated by Kevan Atteberry (Marshall Cavendish)
- For grades 3-4: Big Cats by Elaine Landau (Enslow Publishers)
- For grades 5-6: Encyclopedia Horrifica by Joshua Gee (Scholastic)
- Illustrator of the Year: Ian Falconer, Olivia Helps with Christmas (Simon & Schuster)
- Author of the Year: J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Scholastic)
