Some time ago, we visited Readergirlz during a Weekend Site-Seeing trip, and I mentioned how I wanted to join their club and talk books with them. I’ve been slow to get on board for a number of (I think) very good reasons:
- I often can’t get books in time to read them for the discussion, even though they are listed a month in advance. I need to plan ahead, like, six months or more. (I live over the hill beyond the boonies.)
- The discussion forum is on MySpace, and I don’t have a MySpace account.
- Blah, blah, blah.
However, this month the book is How To Be Popular by Meg Cabot.
Clearly, now’s the time, what with the Meg Cabot jag I’ve been on and my improved proficiency with Facebook–which is MySpace-like, right? So I should be able to figure it out, right? Right? I’ve actually read How To Be Popular, and have it on hand so that I can read it again now.
So yesterday I joined MySpace and the Readergrlz forum on MySpace. This is my MySpace pic. How’s that for a book-talk look? MySpace is the usual overwhelming where-am-I-and-what-is-this? experience, but I’m on my way.
Funny thing: They gave me a friend upon joining. Some guy named Tom. I guess they don’t want anyone to feel friendless at MySpace.
Anyone want to come along? We can figure out MySpace together.
Got a question you want me to ask Meg Cabot?
Maybe I’ll ask the Divas if I can get an advance list of books they’ll be reading. That’s going to be the sticky wicket right there.

I can help you on this one. I was watching Cash Cab (fun show) with the kids the other day. I learned that everyone who joins MySpace is automatically friended by the founder of the site. His name is…you guessed it…Tom. Tom has millions of friends, it seems.
Welcome to readergirlz! I’m glad that you’ve joined the forum and look forward to seeing your posts there.
Bonus points for your sea otter avatar. Otters are my favorite aquatic mammal. 🙂
Here are some upcoming readergirlz picks:
January: A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
February: No Laughter Here by Rita Williams-Garcia
March: The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
Hey Jen!
Thanks so much for battling MySpace to hang out with us with Meg! I’ll run over and look for you. :~)
And I see Little Willow filled you in on the next few months.
Anyone who justs wants to read the issue can at http://www.readergirlz.com, and we have a new blog outside of MySpace now. Yay! http://readergirlz.blogspot.com
Alright, off to the forum!
My son has been after me to try MySpace. Maybe I’ll check it out and see what the Readergirlz are up to.
