Making Connections

I love making connections. Can I connect anything and everything to needlework or writing? I kind of think I can.

autumn-leaves

I took this picture today. Granted, I gathered the leaves and placed them together for the shot, but I didn’t paint the leaves. Though the overall color of the trees is still green, if you look closely, you’ll see they’re starting to turn. Autumn is sneaking up on us, tiptoeing in.

It made me think of the changes that occur in a character over the course of a novel: the best ones occur unobtrusively, on the sly. Sometimes we don’t even notice them until they are as obvious as yellow trees. But then when we look back at the story, we can see how the changes were occurring all along, subtly.

Change is afoot.
