Needle and ThREAD

2009 Challenge Update

Bookmark counts and information continue to roll in.

Fancy Works in Indiana collected 4.5 times as many bookmarks in 2009 as they did in 2008. Congratulations!

Liz reports, “One came all the way from Cheltenham, England. The White River Embroiders Guild sent us 9. Two customers each
donated over 20.”

Many bookmarks were cross stitched on aida, linen, or perforated paper. Other techniques included Swedish weaving, running stitch on mono canvas, and hardanger. One customer stitched seasonal bookmarks. The Funk & Weber Designs READ ambigram was a big hit (yay!), as were geometric designs.

Some bookmarks were donated to Edgewood Jr. High and the rest went to the children’s department of the Monroe County Public Library.

Fancy Works is already making plans for next year’s Challenge. If you’re near Bloomington, IN, contact Liz and/or Dianna to see how you can help or participate, and if you’re passing through this summer, be sure to stop in and say hello. Of course you can tell them I sent you!
