Teen Read Week

It’s Teen Read Week. Did you know? Well it is, Oct. 17 – 23. This year’s theme is Books with Beat @ your Library, drawing attention to poetry, audiobooks, the beat generation, street lit, books about music, etc.

2010-teen-read-week-rgzTeen Read Week is initiated by YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association). They don’t have a badge or poster for the event, but guess who does! Uh-huh. Our favorite online teen reading club, the readergirlz. You can download and print the poster from the readergirlz blog. We can (and should) thank diva Holly Cupala for the poster. Thanks, Holly.

Check with your local library for Teen Read Week events. Spend some time with the readergirlz. Check out the 2010 Teens’ Top Ten. How many have you read so far? I’ve read three. Not bad, considering these are all new books; it takes a while for new books to make it out to me on the fringe.

What I’d like to do here is come up with titles–they don’t have to be YA–that fit the Books with Beat theme. I immediately thought of Jack Prelutsky’s poetry books. What books come to mind when you hear “Books with Beat”?

Really. I want answers.
