Stitching for Literacy Update

This is a Gentle Art bag signed by oodles of cross stitch and counted thread designers and manufacturers. It’s a prize being given away by Thistle Needleworks, Inc. during the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy 2010 Bookmark Challenge. For every bookmark donated, stitchers receive one entry into the drawing. What a fun prize!

The Monday “What have you done lately?” accountability post, where I announce my Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program promotion goal for the week and fess up on last week’s goal.

Last week my goal was to finish this year’s outreach pattern and put the readergirlz program into action. I pretty much failed.

I rejected my initial outreach design because it has too many stitches. I find simple designs terribly hard. I might remove and use one element from the original design, or I might do something else entirely. Sorry, Shannon!

I wrote a how-to-stitch tutorial for the readergirlz program, made a plan for two videos, and sent an email to my contact, but that’s as far as I got.

On a brighter note, I got a wonderful e-mail from Maureen who is stitching bookmarks for this year’s Challenge, but says, “In the future however, I would like to do more.”

Come right on in, Maureen; we’re delighted to have you!

I sent her a long e-mail today–I hope I didn’t overwhelm her!–to start figuring out how she can best participate. All it takes is one person to get the ball rolling in a shop, library, school, community. Anyone else want to be that one person?

This week, I’ll still work on last week’s unmet goals, but I’m going to state a new one because I really want to accomplish it. I know I’ll finish the other two in time. So this week’s goal is to add a new page to this site. I’ll let the specifics be a surprise, but it’s a whole new static page.

All right, what are your goals for the week?
