Stitching for Literacy Update
From the Accents, Inc. 2009 Bookmark Challenge collection. The Monday “What have you done lately?” accountability post, where I announce my Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program promotion goal for the week and fess up on last week’s goal. Last week my goal was to set up a press page. Um…started but not done. [...]

What’s on my mp3 player? The Adoration of Jenna Fox, by Mary E. Pearson. I put this book right up there at the tippy top with Margaret Peterson Haddix’s books for Wildly Interesting Premise. The way the story is told, the premise is a bit of a surprise, but once I learned it, I couldn’t [...]
Garden: Bad News
Let’s nip this “garden envy” in bud, shall we? It’s not all peas and kale. Something is eating my broccoli, and has been for a long time. My Alaska Gardening Guide suggested cutworms as the culprit, and listed possible remedies. Since cutworms are active at night, I actually got up at 3:00 a.m. one night [...]

What’s on my nightstand? Ironman, by Chris Crutcher. I love this book! Seventeen-year-old Bo Brewster knows how to push–himself and others. He maintains a grueling schedule to train for a triathlon while taking care of his little brother and not falling behind in school. When his English teacher (and ex-football coach), father, or college-aged workout [...]
The Needlework Nutshell
The Needlework Nutshell is going to be late this month. All is well; it’s just late. One of the Microtus voles (as opposed to the red-backed voles); I would guess a meadow vole. Voles are mice with short tails. The grassland around the lagoon bustles with these.
