Creating Creatives, Part 1
The Importance of Creating Creatives by Linda Stanek “She’s a Creative,” someone said with a shrug. That explained it all–her hair, her makeup, even the odd little boots she wore. Why does our society want to separate those who are creative from those who are not? It’s as if we believe that the gift of [...]
Screens for Teens
One of my writing critique partners, Mary Beth Schewitz, was just selected as an “everyday hero” by Real Simple magazine for her work with the Max Schewitz Foundation. Mary Beth lost her seemingly healthy 20-year-old son, Max, to sudden cardiac death (SCD) in 2005. The Foundation that bears his name raises funds for the research [...]

This weekend I invite you to visit The Stitchers’ Village and join the Forum in the Tea Shoppe (building on the right as you look at the Village on the Home page). You have to be a member, but that’s just a matter of registering–easy, peasy and totally free. I’ve started a Forum in which [...]
Milestone
A new phase of our lives begins today. The dish soap and sponge no longer live in the bathroom at our house, and dirty dishes will no longer be carted downstairs to the utility sink. I am always grateful for running water. Today I am especially grateful for running water in my kitchen.

They are in their basement singing around a microphone on a laptop–no fancy equipment, just four young adults making music. The pictures [...]
Charitable Receiving
‘Tis the end of the year and time for Funk & Weber to make its annual Stitching for Literacy donations. It’s a pleasure, of course. I can do it online, completely paper- and hassle-free. I get e-mail correspondence and ads from my chosen charities, but no snail mail and no phone calls. It’s a perfect [...]
‘Tis the Season, Part 2
Not exactly the fruits of our labor. Some are in Talkeetna (with Carolynn, who helped), some in Wasilla, some here.
Building on Embroidery
Who needs AutoCAD when you’ve got PatternMaker Pro? We’re getting closer.
BeNaNo Bread
Last year, it was a thinking totem. This year… …it’s BeNaNo bread. Okey-doke, I’m game. Here’s to BeNaNoWriMo! See why I need Becca NaNoing? Without her, things would be a lot less interesting around here, and I’d be hungry. I had another exciting breakthrough in my NaNo novel today. Well, exciting is relative, I suppose, [...]
