All right, friends, we need your help.

We’ve applied for another caretaking job–in Australia, what Queensland Tourism has dubbed “The Best Job in the World.” You may have heard about it on TV or Yahoo.

It’s a pie-in-the-sky job, to be sure, but mm-mm, don’t you just love a big yummy slice of pie-in-the-sky now and then? Um, if you don’t want yours, I’ll take it.

The first step in the application process is to submit a 60-second video explaining why we think we should be hired. Mike and I had never shot digital video and had no idea how to make a movie, but my camera has video capabilities, so we gave them a whirl. Then I learned a bit about video editing, using only the software that came on our laptop.

That right there–learning to shoot and edit video–made this effort worthwhile. Wait till you see what I do with those skills next. Hint: It involves a needle and thread.

In the meantime, we need people to go look at our video on the Queensland Tourism Web site and rate it. Don’t ask me what you’re to rate it for, exactly. Sound quality (the last few syllables are chopped off)? Closest to sixty seconds without going over (59.98 seconds)? Suitability for job? Best background scenery? I hope you’ll choose criteria for which you feel it deserves five stars, but we’ll leave that up to you, and we, of course, will never know.

Here’s how I’ll tempt you to go take a look: We shot it here in Kenai Fjords National Park, so you’ll get to see more of this beautiful place.

Oh, great! Fewer than twenty-four hours after posting this, I learn that our video is “no longer available” on the Queensland Tourism site. Actually, it seems none of the videos are available. Not sure what this means, but I’ll let you know what I know when I know it.
