Casalguidi Stitch
For some time, I’ve had my eye on an embroidery technique for which I had no name. In my mind, I called it “rope couching.” Tonight, I have a much prettier name. I got my copy of Needle Arts, the magazine from the Embroiderer’s Guild of America, and encountered “casalguidi stitch.” Um…huh? I consulted Google.
Sharon B’s Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches has a nice description. I like the green-purple-blue sample (a modern spin on the traditionally white technique), except it’s too small to give a first-time viewer much of a taste.
JMD Designs in New Zealand offers some other models, although not exactly what I have in mind.
There appears to be a casalguidi stitch (as described by Sharon B), as well as a casalguidi style: raised embroidery on a pulled-thread background.
I want to carve out some time to play with this. Better still would be to go to Casalguidi in Italy, and play with the technique there!

Sounds like a winner!.
Revisiting the original v unique issue, I told you about the spiral I did with the overdyed threads- my idea. Then I was reading last month’s Nutshell and someone described the swirl- same thing, she did it first, but I did think of it too. Actually, the same thing happened with Night Howl. I thought I was being very clever working it in glow in the dark, then i was on your website, and you mention using glow in the dark for the Halloween one!
How to I get a pattern for a Katy Bag?
