Alaska: An Evening of Huck

Learn huck weaving while listening to Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. The evening’s project is–you know it!–a bookmark.

Reservations are required.

The kit is $5.00. It contains one 14-count bookmark-sized piece of Huck-a-Buck, pearl cotton, needle, and pattern. If you return your finished huck woven bookmark to the store for the Bookmark Challenge, you will receive a $5.00 gift certificate. All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by a parent.

Indiana: Challenge Kick-Off

Join Liz and Dianna for food and fun as they kick off the Bookmark Challenge. They’ll be giving away fabric and a pattern to get you started on a bookmark. Drop in and pick up materials or stay and stitch.

Alaska: Bookmark Make-It-Take-It

Join Karen from Arctic Needle, members of the Arctic Needle embroidery guild, and yours truly, Jen Funk Weber of Funk & Weber Designs to stitch a bookmark at the library. Everyone is invited, though children under ten must be accompanied by an adult. Materials will be provided free of charge.

X’s & Oh’s and A NEEDLE PULLING THREAD

X’s & Oh’s and A NEEDLE PULLING THREAD needlework magazine are sponsoring a bookmark-designing contest.

Submit an original design to X’s & Oh’s following their guidelines for a chance to win a one year subscription to A NEEDLE PULLING THREAD, a $50 gift certificate from X’s & Oh’s, and a copy of the published winners. One hundred copies of the magazine announcing the winners will also be given away to the first 100 non-winning participants.

Winning entries will be published by X’s & Oh’s with a portion of proceeds being donated to literacy programs.

Contest deadline is June 15, 2009.

Funk & Weber Designs
tote.jpgFunk & Weber Designs is hosting a contest in conjunction with the 2009 Bookmark Challenge. To enter, create a bookmark using elements from any Funk & Weber Designs pattern, and send us a picture of the finished bookmark by May 7th.

For instance, you could use a fish from Puzzle Pisces, letters from The Great Outdoors, an animal from Portraits of the Wild Life, or a panda from “Bearly” Night. Mix and match, add borders, text, embellishments.

Note: You can use elements from our bookmark patterns, but do something else with them.

tote-embroidery.jpgThe Grand prize winner will receive a Needle and ThREAD: Stitching for Literacy zippered tote bag (red) containing the Funk & Weber Designs pattern of his/her choice and a Stash Surprise, including fabric, fiber, and stuff. Yep, that’s right—stuff!

Runners up will receive patterns of their choice.

Nordic Needle
Nordic Needle is hosting a Bookmark Design Challenge. Submit your original design by May 30, 2009. From 8 to 15 winning entries will be awarded Nordic Needle Gift Certificates.

Winning designs will be compiled for publication with a portion of proceeds from the publication being donated to literacy programs. After judging, the bookmarks will be donated to schools and literacy programs or auctioned off with proceeds going to literacy programs.
