Secret Revealed!
One of the problems of maintaining this blog is the occasional need for secrecy. I can’t share plots of new stories I’m writing or details of unpublished designs. Sometimes secrecy is written into contracts I sign. Sometimes I just don’t want my in-laws and friends to know what they’re getting for Christmas.
Five of six pre-felted […]Designing Feather and Fly Bracelet
As I mentioned earlier, I’m working on some zoo-themed needlework pieces. For the past few days, I’ve been playing with the feather and fly stitch idea, with a view to creating a bracelet with it. I thought I’d try to describe the process here. I wish I were at home so that I could scan […]
Adventures in Roman Shades: The Continuing Story
It only took 18 months, but we hung our first Roman shade over the weekend.
In the down position, it looks exactly like what it is: an almost square (regardless of how it appears in this picture) piece of fabric hanging on the wall. Nothing very special about that. As such, I think it would look […]2007 Halloween Countdown at The Armchair Chef
Last December I participated in the Holiday Bake Along over at The Armchair Chef. Orange crescent rolls…peanut butter crunch bars…mmm (makes Homer Simpson gobbling sounds).
Well, I’m participating in the 2007 Halloween Countdown as well. During the month of October, needlework folks are offering favorite recipes and personal stories on The Armchair Chef blog. […]Warm Feet for Winter!
Yeeeee-ha!
I started these in August as an away-from-home project, meaning I worked on them when I was away from home. I just finished them.See the blue trim and soles? It’s really purple. I don’t know why I couldn’t get the camera to see it as purple. Bad lighting, perhaps?
I felted them in a […]Weeks Dye Works Pitches In
I love Weeks Dye Works hand-dyed wool felt. Vibrant colors, soft, but sturdy fabric. I use it for as backing for tags, and now I’m using it for bookmarks. Sorry no images of those yet. But stick around and I will turn this batch of ingredients
into a bookmark in an […]
EGA Day
Arctic Needleworkers meeting today. That’s my “local” EGA chapter, local being Anchorage.
I discovered the chapter when I started as Superintendent of Handwork and Needlework at the Alaska State Fair. When I asked for volunteers, they filled every space on the sign-up sheet, then showed up and worked hard with smiles and […]Favorite Blogs
I’m a blog reader. Big surprise, I know. What surprises me is that most of the blogs that I check regularly are writing/kid-lit blogs. Where are the craft blogs? Why am I not reading them?
While visiting inside number twenty, I noticed Monique’s blogroll, and clicked around. Hmm. […]DIY Pearl Cotton
Not only am I way behind on bookmark pattern development, I am now at a standstill on bookmark #3. I’ve decided to finish it differently. I have only a vague idea of exactly how, but it will come as I play with it. I need pearl cotton, and I had to contact […]
Gardening Hands
I tend to have rough hands, either from house construction, wiring, gardening, whatever. When I stitch, silk and sometimes metallics catch on the tiniest of rough spots, mucking up my strands, making a mess, and being a general nuisance.
I do what I can. I put lotion on at night (Aveeno is one of […]
