Weekend Sightseeing
After several days of very dark clouds dumping very wet snow, the sun broke out, and so did we.

We went canoeing after lunch. The lagoon is often iced in, but not today.

The lagoon residents all came out to see us, circling around us but never coming close. The bravest came as close as thirty feet or so.

It was enough. Finally, a decent picture of a seal!
Half the lagoon is under ice, and we explored the ice edge.

This is where the seals haul out onto the ice.

If you look closely, you can see that the ice is quite thick, and in places where they’ve crawled up and down repeatedly, ramps have formed.

It was a beautiful day.

Loved your pictures! And the seal was really cute. I
do love the snow covered mountains in the background.
Closest I come to that is some snow on the mountains of Leadville Colorado in the spring/summer. Thanks.

[...] Wilderness Eye Candy My friend Jen is braving the Alaska wilderness with her hubster Mike and she posted some incredible pictures at her blog. Somehow, that winter looks much more pleasant than my Ohio winter. Hmmm. Here they are canoeing across a lagoon. Amazing! More pics at Jen’s blog here. [...]
