Here at Funk & Weber Designs, we value time spent reading and stitching. We particularly enjoy doing them simultaneously: Mike reads aloud while I stitch.

A Commitment to Literacy
In an effort to promote both literacy and needlework, Funk & Weber Designs is designing bookmarks. A minimum of 10% of profits from sales of Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy bookmark patterns will be donated to libraries, schools, and/or literacy programs.
We have invited other designers to join us in this endeavor, providing the logo in exchange for a commitment to donate at least 10% of profits to literacy programs. Currently, program patterns are available from My Mark Designs, Rosewood Manor, Cross Eyed Kat, and The Cat’s Whiskers Design Studio.
The Bookmark Challenge
October 1, 2007 marked the opening of the first Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy Bookmark Challenge. Participating independent needlework shops across the country hosted special events and collected hand-stitched bookmarks. Bookmarks were donated to local libraries and schools during Children’s Book Week, Nov. 12-18, to encourage and reward children for reading accomplishments.
The Bookmark Challenge is an annual event. It will take place March 18 – May 6, 2010. Children’s Book Week is May 10 – 16, 2010.
