S4L Book Club–It’s in the Details
Well, I haven’t done the best job leading our first S4L Book Club discussion, but I have high hopes for future discussions. I also failed to post a December book title. Slacker. I hope to announce a January title this week, and I hope you’ll all join me in reading it so we can kick [...]
Holiday Math
Pay attention. There will be a test at the end.
Potato Peel Pie
Bev recently noted the lack of a potato peel pie recipe in our book. This oversight was remedied on the book’s website at Random House. I highly recommend checking it out. I decided to make my own potato peel pie today, leaning heavily on the last sentence in the given recipe. I used six homegrown [...]
S4L Book Club – Characters’ Books
Have you read anything by Charles Lamb, or have you read any of the books the Guernsey residents discuss? Will you pursue any of them now? I put Charles Lamb on my Recommended Reading list. My favorite book, I think, is the cookbook someone–I don’t recall her name–was both writing and reading. Sometimes I like [...]
S4L Book Club – Elizabeth and Juliet
I don’t want to beat a dead horse or anything, but this is something that sticks with me. Did anyone else come to see Juliet and Elizabeth as “twinsies,” as my niece would say? The inquiries have started, so I updated the home page here with dates for the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy 2011 Bookmark Challenge. We will officially collect bookmarks from March 17 – April 28 and deliver them to libraries and schools for Children’s [...]
S4L Book Club–Juliet and Elizabeth
Juliet seems to fill the hole left by Elizabeth in the Guernsey community. In what ways are Juliet and Elizabeth kindred spirits? What makes Juliet feel so at home in Guernsey, and what does she offer the other residents? Have you ever visited or moved to a place where you felt more at home than [...]
I Am Here
See? A lot like yesterday’s image, no? Of course you all knew to interpret “almost heaven” as a clue. It was fun to see what you did with that; you’re all so smart and creative. Here’s the rest of it: Almost heaven, West Virginia, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River. I think most of you will [...]
Where Am I?
Y’all did so well with the last one, I’ll ask again. Being as specific as you can be, where am I? I’ll tell you this: It’s almost heaven, not directly adjacent to it, but nearby.
S4L Book Club – Juliet and Elizabeth
Elizabeth becomes the focus of Juliet’s book. Why? What role does Elizabeth play in our book, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society? We actually hear very little about Elizabeth, and we never hear from her, what do you think would happen to the story if she were not part of it?
