Bookmark Patterns from My Mark
Yesterday, Monique over at My Mark designs released her first Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy bookmark pattern. She’s the first not-us designer to come out with a program bookmark pattern. Yay, Monique! We are so grateful!
As you can see, her first pattern offers 3 designs, so yes, she kicks my butt. […]
Adventure in Roman Shades
According to this, I began my Roman Shade adventure on July 26th. Actually, that’s not true. The adventure began in June 2006 when I decided I wanted to make Roman shades and we purchased fabric. The 2007 continuation of the adventure began on July 26. We pretty much had to start […]
Literacy Non-profits
As you know, part of our Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program involves donating a portion of bookmark profits to literacy programs. Well, which one(s)?
I looked into Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at the recommendation of a friend. It’s got a fancy fun Web site and a lofty goal: The program provides a […]EGA Day
Arctic Needleworkers meeting today. That’s my “local” EGA chapter, local being Anchorage.
I discovered the chapter when I started as Superintendent of Handwork and Needlework at the Alaska State Fair. When I asked for volunteers, they filled every space on the sign-up sheet, then showed up and worked hard with smiles and […]Proof It’s a Good Idea (in case you need it)
Stitching bookmarks to encourage literacy was an original idea (I thought it up, by myself, in my own soggy noodle), but it’s not a unique idea. (Did I get that right, Becca?!) At least one other person thought of it before I did, and I suspect many others have thought of it, too. […]
Harvest
The garden has done well in spite of the late start and less-than-ideal conditions.
We’re eating lots of lettuce, chard, spinach, and radishes, some zucchini, beets, and peas. We’re blanching and freezing spinach, chard, collards, and kale for winter use. Yum!
We’re also smoking salmon. Double-yum!
And this delightful critter is content to […]
Borrowed Idea
Okay, so I knew I wanted to design a line of bookmarks and donate a portion of profits to literacy nonprofits. That part would be easy; I already design, publish, and sell patterns. But how was I going to involve Needlework Nutshell readers and shops?
Now, there’s a small business theory that I find […]Got the Idea. Now what?
So how does a person begin to set up programs like Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy and the 2007 Bookmark Challenge?
Well I’ll tell you: I don’t know!
It’s true. I’m making it up as I go, with the help of many generous, creative, and enthusiastic people. In fact, coming to grips with the […]Happy Birthday to Us!
Mike and I both have birthdays in the first half of September. Bob and Thea tried repeatedly to take us out to dinner, but when those attempts failed, they brought dinner to us.
King crab legs–YUM! With Old Bay seasoning thanks to my MD roots. And chocolate cake for dessert, of […]
It’s Official!
Today is the official launch of the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program! Wooooooo! September is the month to acquire patterns, fabrics, fibers, and books, so that on October 1 we can all start stitching and reading like fiends.
So where did the idea for the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program […]
