Warm Feet for Winter!
Yeeeee-ha!
I started these in August as an away-from-home project, meaning I worked on them when I was away from home. I just finished them.See the blue trim and soles? It’s really purple. I don’t know why I couldn’t get the camera to see it as purple. Bad lighting, perhaps?
I felted them in a […]Another Make-It/Take-It Bookmark
I’m still stitching models for the Make-It/Take-It in October. I wanted one on aida, since most attendees will be stitching on aida. Plus, I’m still testing finishing techniques to make sure I can offer the best advice on the easiest method.
That’s the thing with designing/teaching. I need to make lots of samples to figure […]
The Magic of a Polarizer
Wonder of wonders. I was bemoaning the way some of our Kluane pictures came out–bad lighting, glare–so Mike disappeared for 7.5 seconds and returned with a polarizer for the digital camera. I’ve had that camera for 5 years and never knew it had a polarizer. Yeesh!
Now that’s more like it!
Okay, conditions are […]New Challenge Prize From Picture This Plus
Yay! Picture This Plus has offered up a prize for the 2007 Bookmark Challenge. Details are not being shared at this time, but I think it’s safe to say it will involve their Colorscapes over-dyed fabrics.
I’m a huge fan of these fabrics. I first used them for the Colorful Critters patterns. […]
Adventures In Kluane, Part 2 (Or, Adventures Out of Kluane)
These pictures are not actually in Kluane, but they were taken on the way to and from the park and so are included in this adventure.
Naturally, I had needlework with me. Motion sickness prevents me from doing much in a moving vehicle, but my fidgety hands need something to do at stoplights and such. […]
Make-It/Take-It Models
To help advertise the Make-It/Take-It events at the Anchorage public libraries, guild members, Karen (Arctic Needle owner), and I need to supply some models of the pattern we’ll be using.
Here are two I’ve done. Both use Picture This Plus Cashel Linen and Weeks Dye Works wool. The pink one is Presencia […]
Adventure in Kluane National Park, Part 1
Did you miss me? What do you mean you didn’t notice I was gone?!
Well, I was, and now I’m back. The Adventure in Roman Shades was exchanged for an Adventure in Kluane (say “kloo-AH-nee”) National Park, Yukon, Canada: camping, canoeing, route-scouting for future trips.
It was a little gray and rainy, but we had […]More Proof This Is A Good Idea
Lazy Girl Joan, who is largely responsible for the Bookmark Challenge, mentioned the Needle and Thread: Stitching for Literacy program in her Lazy Yahoo! group.
Lazy member, Dana, from Sevierville, TN, responded with this story:
The Reading for Literacy campaign you describe is wonderful.
In one of my earlier lives I was a teacher. Then we […]Weeks Dye Works Pitches In
I love Weeks Dye Works hand-dyed wool felt. Vibrant colors, soft, but sturdy fabric. I use it for as backing for tags, and now I’m using it for bookmarks. Sorry no images of those yet. But stick around and I will turn this batch of ingredients
into a bookmark in an […]
The Start of a Reading List: P.G. Wodehouse
I’m being asked for recommendations for books/stories to read aloud during stitch-group meetings.
I keep suggesting that while we stitch bookmarks to encourage kids to read, and while we raise money to support literacy programs, we should all be taking time to model the behavior we want to encourage: we need to remember to read.
Mike and […]
